Your Guide to Home Oxygen Funding and Eligibility in Ontario

Am I Eligible for Home Oxygen Therapy Funding?

The Home Oxygen Program (HOP) in Ontario is a government-funded initiative managed by the Ontario Ministry of Health. It is designed to provide financial assistance for medically necessary oxygen therapy to eligible individuals who require it in their homes.

To qualify for the HOP, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: You must have been an Ontario resident for at least six months.
  • Health Card: You must be eligible for and possess a valid Ontario Health Card (OHIP)
  • Medical Necessity: A licensed healthcare professional must prescribe home oxygen therapy to treat a diagnosed medical condition.
  • Medical Criteria: Meeting the Home Oxygen Program medical criteria.

What Funding Can I Receive?

The Home Oxygen Program (HOP) offers support for assistive devices through the Assistive Devices Program (ADP). Funding levels through the ADP depend on your age and circumstances.

Full coverage (100%) is available for those who are:

  • 65 or older
  • Residents of long-term care homes
  • Receiving support through social assistance programs (Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, or Assistance to Children with Severe Disabilities)
  • Receiving professional home care services through Home and Community Care Support Services (formerly CCAC)

If you’re under 65 and not in one of these categories, the ADP may still cover 75% of the eligible costs.
